Nope, not normally! Like the Graphics it normally had just the two preamp valves. With the extreme high volume levels more than making up for lower gain gain, well these amps plain rock!īTW Aspen Pittman in his 'Tube Amp Book' said that the OR120M had an extra gain stage. The maximum gain levels are low by modern standards, but you don't need high gain for great sounds. Big, fat, aggressive, these amps are designed with one thing in mind - loud distortion. But for guitar or bass the tones from these amps (and the OTR I'd imagine too) are unique and just plain killer. I use the amp for bass so instead of being a silly loud amp for modern stages it actually struggles a bit on clean headroom for bass. But going below say 8/10 on the volume front does start to strip the guts out of the sound. The MV is basic (one of the if not the first master volume circuit on a UK amp) and is effective for losing a bit of volume while retaining decent tone. To sound really good though you do need to get them up to high working volumes.

OR80s or OR120s are just silly loud guitar amps.
SIGNAL PATH BANDCAMP FULL
I have played graphics briefly but not full throttle so I can't really say too much on that, but if true (which I can believe) than that is just plain scary. Though I often read people say that the older graphics had it on the out and out volume front. In theory the MV version with the MV set full open and just using the gain as the volume control gets pretty similar results to the non MV Graphics. Or should i say, 'a more modern gain character'I don't think there is even that difference. i'm led to believe the OR120M has a bit more gain.

Conceptually, the album is a tribute to the awesome nature of what it means to be inspired and represents Thogmartin’s own personal sun path.Īfter years of developing progressive means of performing and composing, Sun Path is EarthCry’s heartfelt and soul-filled contribution to the expanding anthology of electronic music and production culture.OrangePaul wrote:I've been thinking along similar lines.īut wondering what the difference is between my OR120 (non master vol 75 model) compared to an OR120M. It can be understood as the energy course which allows for the most progression and growth. The literal meaning of a “sun path” is the mapped positional changes of the sun, due to the season and hours, which is used to calculate green building practices and the positioning of solar power systems. The boost in creativity that using the modular provided cleared a path for these songs to finally shine out.” Most of the tracks on Sun Path feature modular sound and sections, with half being purely modular. In the modular realm however, the musician is manipulating the path of analog electric signal, essentially interacting with nature using a hands on living and breathing instrument. Previously almost 100% of my composing was done using a laptop, staring at a dead lifeless backlit screen, using the same tools that I had been using for years. I began to gain the confidence that I truly did have something valuable to offer with EarthCry.

“I was completely taken by the uncanny propensity of the modular synthesizer to generate constant nuance and sonic novelty to my music,” said Thogmartin, “I quickly went back to unreleased material I had written years ago and re-composed/re-recorded parts using this fantastic device I was building. It wasn’t until last year, when he finally dove into vastness of the modular synthesizer that he was inspired to finally complete this collection of music now known as Sun Path. As he progressed, he was able to add sampling, field recording and live instrumentation to his repertoire and production pallet. EarthCry’s Sun Path secures the artist a council seat alongside such singular luminaries as Bluetech, Four Tet and Brian Eno.įour years ago, Thogmartin truly began this journey, making his ideas into compositions via the power of modern laptop production. Premier compositions which span the human experience of one mind over a four year period. Twelve tracks that act a case study on the union between digital and organic, delicate and fierce, erudite and natural. A soundtrack for the collective consciousness of today’s higher-level thinkers, intent on assimilating all of the old to push forth the new. EarthCry’s second full-length release, Sun Path, emerges as an album meant for this moment.
